A shopping centre in Grantham could help menswear store Greenwoods stay in town.

The store in the Isaac Newton Centre is closing down after a rise in rent. The store is likely to close in August.

But the new owners of the George Shopping Centre have approached the company and offered one of its units.

Atlantis Holdings, which took over the George centre earlier this year, says it would like to see Greenwoods move into one of its units.

Andrew Strong, chief executive of Atlantis Holdings, said: “We are very keen to do a deal. We have empty units and even if it’s a soft deal we are keen to see them stay in Grantham. We want to get the units filled.”

Mr Strong added: “People don’t want to see the big brands moving out. These are exactly the kind of business Grantham wants to keep.”

Mr Strong said Greenwood’s could move into the George Shopping Centre very quickly so that there was no gap in its trading. He said: “We are waiting to accommodate them so they can have seamless trading.”

Greenwoods confirmed it had been in discussions with Atlantis but would not say how far those discussions had gone.

Sales director David Alleston, said: “We want to stay in Grantham and we have been looking at a lot of opportunities to do that. I cannot say where we are at the moment but we are having as many discussions as possible.”

The Journal reported in June that Atlantis had slashed service charges and created a range of leasing packages to attract businesses.
