Business leaders across the region have an opportunity to hear the views of a range of influential experts at the Duncan & Toplis directors’ briefing at Belton Woods Hotel in Grantham on November 15.

Speaking at the annual event, which aims to offer high-level advice and insights to directors and finance directors in the East Midlands, is chairman of the Institute of Directors Ian Dormer, deputy regional director for UK Trade and Investment Sarah Stevenson, founder of The Positive Company Stuart Baldwin, chief operating officer for Europe and North America at Appco Group UK Perveen Virdee, and NatWest market strategist Neil Parker.

Mr Dormer said: “This will be an essential briefing for businesses of all sizes, with expertise covering an incredibly diverse range of business considerations.

“In addition, we’ll be looking at the nature of our economic recovery and focusing on how firms can maximise opportunities during difficult trading conditions. I know from my own business experience, as well as from my work with the Institute of Directors, that we all have a great deal we can learn from each other.”

Places at the event, entitled ‘Steering the Ship, Not Rocking the Boat’, are free. The theme is managing business through difficult times.

Ian Dormer, who is the managing director of Rosh Engineering Ltd, started his working life as a journalist on Flight International and he continues to write for the Daily Telegraph.

Sarah Stevenson, whose talk will promote the benefits of exporting, has worked for UK Trade & Investment for 15 years. She joined the East Midlands team as deputy director in November 2012 following a five-year spell in London heading up the South-East Asia unit.

Stuart Baldwin is a leading expert on engagement, performance and happiness at work. He is a highly sought after speaker, motivating leaders to create new levels of performance and engagement in their people. He has worked with the BBC, AXA, Government departments and MPs.

Perveen Virdee has over 14 years’ experience in direct sales and marketing, and her expertise ranges from operations management to business development and client relationship management. She joined Appco Group in 2000 and has been Chief Operating Officer for Europe and North America since 2012. At the briefing she will give an insight into Appco’s marketing approach, how growth has been achieved in demanding times and how challenges to the business have been identified and overcome.

Neil Parker, who joined NatWest in 1995, will talk to delegates about the difficulties the UK economy is facing, particularly in manufacturing and construction, despite the recent bounceback in activity. He will also cover issues surrounding key markets, including the Euro zone, the United States and Asia, the outlook for interest rates in all of these economies and some key foreign exchange forecasts.

Managing partner at Duncan & Toplis Adrian Reynolds said: “With such an eminent and well respected line-up of speakers this year I’m confident that the event will provide our delegates with much food for thought.

“It will be an excellent opportunity for business leaders to share ideas and get a new perspective on a range of issues.”
