A PAIR of local businessmen reopened the Kings Hotel in Grantham on Monday just four months after its sudden closure.
Kevin Beck and James Carr are roofing contractors by trade but they decided to take on the hotel in an attempt to get it back to its best.
Kevin, from Great Gonerby, said: “We will get it buzzing again.”
The hotel closed without explanation in March leaving brides who were booked for functions there in distress about their big days but Kevin and James are determined to get it back on track.
Kevin said: “I’m born and bred Great Gonerby and my business partner is from this area. We are going to put everything into this place to get it back up and running again.”
It is the first hotel that either of them has run but Kevin has experience of the trade after successfully converting his house into and bed and breakfast a few years ago.
The pair, who have worked together for over 20 years, are planning a big launch for the hotel in a few weeks but in the meantime they hope that people will start using the facilities again.
Kevin said: “It’s lost a lot of customers because it’s been closed. We want to get them back through the door.”
And it looks like they will be kept busy as there is already a wedding planned for next Saturday.
The business partners have taken on some of the staff who worked at the hotel before and food is available as is the use of the 21 bedrooms and the function and meeting rooms.
Kevin added: “The bar prices and food prices are all competitive and we want people to use the bar area as their local.”
They are not planning huge changes for the hotel but they do want to extend the beer garden over the next year to encourage more of the passing traffic to pop in. There are also plans for a steak night and a curry night.
If you would like to book the facilities for anything from a meal to a wedding call Kevin on 07778816948 or pop in.
