Column by Matthew Lee, Leader of South Kesteven District Council

By KentOnline reporter

I was delighted to speak to a packed room of businesspeople from across the district at the beautiful Easton Walled Gardens this week.

Nothing new there, you may say. But what made it different is that this was the first of many events to be organised by our inward investment team, InvestSK.

As well as hearing from me and finding out more about how InvestSK can help their businesses, we were delighted to be joined by Lewis Stringer from the British Business Bank who explained the funding that is available to micro and small businesses, and Jo Peck from Observer Solutions who spoke about cyber security – two issues that are high on businesses’ agendas.

A new Business Showcase book was also launched at the event, which celebrates the superb quality and diversity of companies in our district.

I never cease to be impressed by the businesses in South Kesteven, many of which are operating globally and leading their fields.

If you’d like a copy of the showcase or have a great success story to share, please do get in touch with the team; they will be delighted to help share your news.

We have big ambitions to grow South Kesteven’s economy. InvestSK was set up in October 2017 to make it easy for companies to do business with South Kesteven District Council and find the business intelligence, finance, skills and premises they need to grow and thrive.

There are a number that are extremely keen to move into our district if only they could find the right premises in the right location – exactly the sort of challenge that
InvestSK relishes!

The team is looking beyond the district lines to encourage new business to relocate or invest in South Kesteven.

With excellent transport links, high-performing schools, reasonable house prices, fantastic heritage and vibrant cultural events, there are lots of compelling reasons why South Kesteven is a great place to work, live, visit and invest.

Such has been the success of InvestSK in recent months that I would like to make it a separate company so that the team has the freedom and independence they need to make an even bigger impact on our behalf.

So if you’re at an event or a show and see InvestSK and its distinctive blossom logo – a nod to Sir Isaac Newton and the discovery of gravity – please do say hello. They are working for you!
