Councillor Ian Selby with fellow zumba fans and instructor Michael Anderson prepare for the upcoming zumbathon.

A Grantham councillor is organsing a zumbathon in aid of two local causes and is calling for more people to take part.

The two-hour event will take place on Saturday, August 20, at The Meres Leisure Centre in Trent Road, put on by Harrowby ward councillor Ian Selby.

He said: “I’m very much looking forward to our first-ever Zumbathon; it’s a sponsored charity two-hour marathon dance fitness class. We have over 30 very enthusiastic people already signed up for this exciting event. The music we dance to is fabulous and it’s just a great fun way to keep fit. Two women in particular inspire me, one is 65 years of age and the other has just turned 80 years.”

Sponsorship will go to the Grantham Journal Children’s Fund and community radio station Gravity FM.

The zumbathon begins at noon. Entry is free and spectators and supporters are welcome. The event is supported by leisure centre operator 1Life.

For further details or a sponsorship form, call Coun Selby on 07908 148000.
