Grantham CAMRA award for Ancaster Sports and Social Club

Ancaster Sports and Social Club has received yet another plaque for being Grantham CAMRA’s sports and social club for 2019.

It is the eighth successive year the club has won such acclaim.

Presenting the award, Grantham CAMRA chairman Rob Hamnett-Day thanked social club bar manager David Wrench for his hard work, recalling how CAMRA members tour the district to test the ales and service at so many venues across the district.

Club chairman Andy Cullum agreed his staff had also worked hard to produce good service and great beer. He said: “The locals enjoy our variety of ales and they don’t tend to last. We have won every year since 2012. It’s just the pride the while team behind the bar put into this and ensuring our ales are well looked after.”

After the presentation, former Grantham CAMRA Chairman Neville Lomas confirmed: “It’s not just the quality of the beer but the Ancaster Sports and Social Club is a very good community venue.

“They have cricket, football facilities, etc, and a lot of parents whose children play sports here are club members.”

He added: “The club also hosts a village fayre every year, which is always well supported.”

Earlier this year, Grantham CAMRA awarded its Town Pub of the Year and Overall Pub of the Year Award to the Nobody Inn, North Street, Grantham.

Country pub of the year went to the Green Man in Ropsley.
