Can you help Grantham Foodbank to find a new home in town?

Have your say

GRANTHAM Foodbank is on the lookout for new premises and is asking anyone who thinks they may have something suitable to get in touch.

The foodbank is currently based out of premises in St Catherine’s Road in Grantham but is looking for new premises as it expands and looks to cut costs to get the maximum benefit out of any money donated.

Brian Hanbury of Grantham Foodbank said: “The financial cost we estimate at £8.50 per client.

“All of the food is free and the volunteers are free. The cost is the building and we are asking Grantham to see if it can provide us with a building to keep going.

“The Quality Furniture Company has sponsored us for £5,000 a year for five years. We are already in our second year of that and it gives us another six months here.

“We are looking for a premises we can actively work from and grow from.

“The project can make all the difference in local people’s lives.”

Mr Hanbury hopes the current economic climate may mean some kind-hearted local businessman decides to give the Foodbank a new home, rather than have a shop or other building lying empty.

He said: “There are enough empty stores around and we are looking for something in the centre of Grantham.

“We recognise that the country is going to be in this state for three or four years - if not, longer - so we need to be here.”
