Canvassers to call at homes across South Kesteven to make sure you are registered to vote

Canvassers will be calling at homes across South Kesteven from Friday (September 25) encouraging people to make sure they are registered to vote.

Thousands of letters have gone out over the last three months asking residents to check if their correct information appears on the electoral register. Lots of people have responded to SKDC’s annual voter registration canvass but around 20 per cent still need to fill in their household enquiry forms.

Beverly Agass, Electoral Registration Officer, said the aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

She said: “Anyone that wants to vote must be registered to make sure they are able to have their say at the elections next year. Canvassers will visit homes to encourage those who have not responded to fill in the form.”

It’s particularly important that anyone who has moved address recently looks out for the form and checks whether they are registered.

Research by the independent Electoral Commission indicates that across Great Britain, recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.

Residents who have any questions can contact the elections team at SKDC on 01476 40 60 80 or email elections@southkesteven.gov.uk
