This week is ‘Catch the Bus Week’ (June 29-July 5), and forming part of it is a roadshow which stops off at Grantham tomorrow (Thursday).

The national initiative, now in its third year, sees passenger organisations, bus operators and local authorities coming together to celebrate the benefits of travelling by bus and to inspire more people to try a bus journey that week.

Last year’s event attracted support from almost 100 bus companies, passenger organisations and local authorities, and Lincolnshire County Council is taking part once again.

Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways and transportation, said: “The bus is an affordable and accessible form of transport, and a great and easy way to travel. We hope that during Catch the Bus Week we’ll encourage many more people to travel by bus, and hopefully change their travel habits for the long term. With free bus travel on offer we’re sure that some people will be converted.”

The Catch the Bus Week roadshow has been touring the county and will come to Grantham tomorrow between 10am and 11.30am. Members of the council’s transport team and CallConnect team will be on hand to provide the latest timetables and information, taster bus tickets for people to try, and a competition to enter.

They hope to be accompanied by one of Stagecoach’s Seasider fleet (holiday themed open-topped buses) for part of the week, and also the ‘Rocky the bus’ character.

Andy Smith, commercial manager for Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “Using the bus is a way of not only saving you money but it also helps the environment. Regular bus users will already know about the benefits and Catch The Bus Week is a great way of promoting this to other commuters, students, shoppers and leisure travellers.”

This year Lincolnshire County Council is working in partnership with Stagecoach in Lincolnshire, Brylaine Travel, PC Coaches, Centrebus and CallConnect to run the Catch the Bus Week Roadshow.

On Saturday, all CallConnect journeys will be absolutely free. Journeys can be booked from Saturday, June 27.
