A 90s dance anthems show, set up by a Grantham couple, has proved so popular that they are now creating a second team of performers through crowdfunding.

Ultra 90s was set up by Kelly Borkertas and Chris Wade in 2008, after they noticed that while there were plenty of 70s and 80s tribute shows, there was nothing celebrating the club classics of the 90s.

Fast forward seven years and the Ultra 90s team complete with music, dances and costumes of the decade are fully booked to perform at a variety of events, including recently at the renewal of celebrity couple Katie Price and Kieran Hayler’s wedding vows.

The popularity of the Grantham business has meant that they are unable to fulfil all event requests, leading to their decision to expand with a second team called Ultra 90s Fresh.

Kelly explains: “It will be the same show with full on, high energy dance music.” The 34-year-old who sings anthems including ‘Show Me Love’ by Robin S and Kelly Llorenna’s ‘Set You Free’in the show, added: “The idea behind crowdsoucing, which we are doing through Kickstarter, is to include the fans in creating Ultra 90s Fresh. If every one of our fans gave £2 we’d smash our target.”

Kelly, who lives with fellow performer Chris, 36, on Railway Terrace, Grantham, said: “Setting up Ultra 90s was really hard to start with - we had to take out loans and then there was the global financial crisis and we were left with a pretty poor credit rating.

“For Ultra 90s Fresh, we have spent a long time researching to make sure it is the most cost effective and efficient it can be, while still delivering that 90s vibe.”

Kickstarter is an online platform for creative projects to generate funding, and the webpage for Ultra 90s Fresh is running until 9pm on April 7.

The pair have drawn up a detailed plan of the equipment required, including a digital mixing desk, lighting and microphones and merchandise such as T-Shirts and CDs.

Meanwhile the Ultra 90s team, also comprising Victoria Louise on lead vocals, Michael Latham on vocals and keyboard, and Kit Marsden on percussion, are keeping busy and currently on the road performing their unique show both in the area and all around the country.
