A NEW way of allowing the public to check the hygiene standards of restaurants and takeaways in the Grantham area will be adopted in the new year.

South Kesteven District Council is to adopt a national scheme run by the Food Standards Agency from April. The new ratings will be available at the FSA website and businesses will be given certificates to display.

Healthy environment portfolio holder John Smith said: “We have run our own successful food hygiene scheme for a number of years, but having a single scheme which is consistent nationwide means that the information will have the same significance wherever people are buying food.”
