County council gritters to be named Mar-grit Thatcher and Sir Ice-acc Newton

By Grantham Reporter

Two of Lincolnshire County Council's four largest gritters will be named Mar-grit Thatcher and Sir Ice-acc Newton after it held a competition.

Almost 300 entries were received for the county council's competition to name its largest gritting vehicles with two of Grantham's most famous figures providing inspiration.

The authority whittled the entries down to the best four after it asked for creative and witty suggestions with a Lincolnshire theme.

The winning names are Mar-grit Thatcher, The Spread Arrows, Sir Ice-acc Newton and The Jolly Gritterman.

Coun Clio Perraton- Williams, executive support councillor for highways, said: "We've had some great suggestions and it was really difficult to pick just four. However, the winning entries were particularly creative and original and all had a distinct Lincolnshire connection.

"We'd like to thank everyone who took part – I think that we've been able to come up with four fantastic names for our gritters!"
