The body of missing Long Bennington man Derek Foster, 83, has been found two weeks after he disappeared.
Mr Foster’s body was found close to the junction of Allington Lane and the A1 at Foston this afternoon.
Mr Foster’s brother, Cliff, said on Facebook: “The police believe he may have been given a lift to Allington from Grantham and then picked up another lift that took him down to Foston. They could not give further details at this time. As soon as I hear more I will post the details. The coroner’s office has been informed and a post mortem will be held at Nottingham. It’s a great pity he made it so far and couldn’t make the last two miles.
“It may become clear eventually why he missed the buses from Grantham. In the meantime I am sincerely grateful once again to Alice and to all who have searched for Derek over the last two weeks, giving up their time and turning out in all sorts of weather. We will not forget your kindness and concern. Thank you all again.”
Mr Foster went missing on December 23 and was last seen at Grantham bus station in the afternoon. He was seen in the bay where buses for Bottesford depart but it was not known if he got on a bus. Searches in Grantham, Long Bennington and Bottesford were made.
Alice Noquet, whose father was a friend of Mr Foster’s, set up a Facebook page urging people to help in the search.
Alice said: “It’s very sad. There were a lot of people who helped in the search for him. He was a neighbour of my dad’s and my dad rang me today to tell me he had been found.”
