A HELICOPTER was scrambled from a neighbouring police force to help search for five men trying to escape from police.
A plate recognition camera picked up a HGV lorry, which was reported as stolen from Swindon in January, travelling along the A1 on Tuesday.
When officers gave chase, five men, all from the Leeds area, abandoned the lorry and fled near Great Ponton.
A chopper from Cambridgeshire and police officers from Nottinghamshire arrived as back-up, and the five men, aged between 22 and 43, were eventually found on the A1 at Great Ponton in another vehicle.
They were arrested on suspicion of theft of the lorry and are currently being questioned at Grantham Police Station.
