Christmas presents stolen in spate of Grantham burglaries

POLICE are warning people to beware after two families lost Christmas presents in burglaries.

On Wednesday thieves broke into a house in Cliffe Road, Gonerby Hill Foot and stole jewellery, watches and a present from under the Christmas tree. The theft happened between 2.20pm and 5.50pm.

On the same afternoon a house in Abbey Lane, Sedgebrook was broken into. Two flat screen televisions which had been wrapped as presents were stolen.

Insp Phil Taylor of Lincolnshire Police said: “Thieves do target houses where they can see Christmas presents through windows at this time of year.

“It’s a good idea to position your tree out of view from windows or keep the curtains in that room closed in the day.

“It’s also a good idea to fit cheap timer switches to lights in other rooms and set them to come on the in the late afternoon before you get home from work.

“It just makes your house look occupied and means thieves will probably pass it over. They’re available at most DIY shops.”
