TWO men who were caught attempting to burgle an empty house were put before Grantham magistrates on Wednesday.

Stuart Frankish, of Thames Road, Grantham, and Martin Moore, of Ivatt Court, Grantham, admitted the charge.

The pair were found in the house at around 9.30pm on October 25 trying to steal copper after police responded to a caller who saw the men in the unoccupied house.

Frankish was found in the conservatory and Moore was caught trying to climb out of the living room window in a bid to escape capture.

The house was empty at the time because it was undergoing a refurbishment.

Rob Arthur, who defended Moore, said: “He knew of the empty premises and had gone there because he had drug problems.

“He relapsed into taking heroin. He was there to take the copper piping.”

Frankish and Moore both got 12 month community orders with drug rehabilitation requirements and each had to pay compensation of £145.
