A MAN was found to have earned more than £5,000 while picking up more than £7,000 in incapacity benefits.

Darren Joseph, of Heathfield Road, Grantham, admitted two charges of failing to notify the authorities of a change in circumstances after taking on cleaning work.

Joseph, 46, said he sub-contracted out the majority of the work to two Polish workers and only carried out around 20 per cent of the work himself.

District Judge Stobart said: “Working was something you claimed you could not do when you claimed the benefit so it was very dishonest.

“If there is any further offending like this you are a crook and the court will sentence you on that basis.”

Deductions will be made from Joseph’s benefits to pay back the Department for Work and Pensions. He was also ordered to pay costs of £100.

Joseph was also made subject to a 12-month supervision order.

District Judge Stobart said: “I don’t want to see you again.”
