STEALING a dress from a shop in Grantham High Street landed a woman with a 12 month conditional discharge.

Hazel Hibbitt, 55, of Garnet Mews, Grantham, admitted taking the dress after trying it on in Dorothy Perkins, on July 5.

Daniel Paulson, prosecuting, said Hibbitt had put the dress into her bag while in the changing rooms.

Hibbitt had recently got back into work but was told to go on sick leave after her bad back interfered with her daily tasks.

Judith Armstrong, defending, said: “She didn’t have any statutory sick pay and didn’t have any benefits, she had next to nothing.”

Magistrates ordered Hibbitt to pay £40 towards costs.
