A LIVERPOOL man who took over driving for his friend when he was over the drink drive limit, without a licence or insurance was fined £400 and disqualified for three years.

Benjamin Clifton, of Gregson Road, Liverpool, was on the A1 at Long Bennington when he overtook off-duty police officers. The car had strayed over the white lines and then pulled into a layby. The officers spoke to Clifton and noticed he had been drinking.

Chris Pye-Smith, defending, said Clifton had had no intention to drive but his friend got too tired.

Christopher Poole, of Corsican Pine Close, New Market, admitted allowing Clifton to use the car with no insurance or licence but denied aiding and abetting him to use the car when over the limit. His case was adjourned until February 27.
