A DRIVER was injured when he rolled his car a couple of times after clipping the kerb in Barrowby Road, Grantham, when he was twice over the legal drink-drive limit.
Benjamin Winter, of Belton Lane, Grantham, admitted he was driving home after drinking at around 3.15am on October 8 when the accident happened.
When police officers arrived they found his Ford Focus severely damaged in the middle of the road.
Marie Stace, prosecuting, said Winter smelt of alcohol and after he was checked by ambulance crews he was arrested.
He recorded a reading of 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.
He admitted that he had been drinking.
Kate Macmillan, defending, said: “He was badly frightened by the accident he caused. He’s very lucky not to have been seriously injured or worse.
“Getting in the car after consuming alcohol is completely out of character. He’s extremely nervous about what is about to happen to him.
“It was an extremely expensive and foolish decision made by Winter.”
Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 20 months and fined Winter, who is a plasterer, £250. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
