A Grantham man convicted of carrying out sexual assaults on a seven-year-old girl over 20 years ago was jailed for eight years at Lincoln Crown Court.

Stephen Maskell was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life.

Maskell, 48, of East Street, Grantham, denied four charges of indecent assault between March 1991 and December 1992 but was found guilty by a jury following a trial earlier this year.

Judge Michael Heath order Maskell to remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

The Judge described him as a bully who has shown no remorse for what he did.

Caroline Bradley, prosecuting, said the victim was abused on a number of occasions but did not complain at the time because she was too scared. It was only many years later that she confided in a relative and police were contacted.

Maskell denied the offences claiming the incidents did not happen.

Alison Summers, defending, said the offences happened 20 years ago and had not been repeated.
