THE owner of a hair salon in Grantham is furious that a yob who smashed a salon window was let off with a caution.

Simon Bailey, who owns and runs Bailey’s in St Catherine’s Road, has been landed with a bill for £120 for window repairs, while the vandal gets a slap on the wrist.

Mr Bailey said: “At the very least, he should have to pay for what he’s done.

“I just think it’s outrageous. It’s like saying you or I can go down the High Street and smash windows and get away with it.

“I’m flabbergasted.”

The incident happened on a Saturday night at the end of August and Mr Bailey did not find out about the damage until the following day.

Although insured, Mr Bailey’s £200 excess means he can’t make a claim and so he has had to fork out the repair costs from his own pocket.

He said: “It’s absolutely ludicrous that this can be allowed to happen.”

Police spokesman James Newall said: “The offender made a full and frank admission at the first opportunity and after consideration of proportionality in relation to the offence and the offender’s history a decision was made to caution.

“In terms of compensation, civil action is an option for the victim.”
