A drug addict told police he had been hoping to smoke the entire crop of cannabis he was growing in his bedroom.
Tomas Starsinovas, 20, of Manthorpe Road, Grantham, admitted producing cannabis at his home address and possessing cannabis.
Prosecuting, Shelley Wilson told Grantham Magistrates Court that on January 15 police carried out a drugs warrant and raided Starsinovas’ home where they found a cultivation area in his bedroom.
They discovered nine cannabis plants together with special lighting, ventilation ducts and other equipment used in the growing of the drug.
The defendant was arrested and searched and a small amount of cannabis was found in his pocket.
Starsinovas admitted he had grown the plants from seeds he had acquired off the internet.
He said he had an addiction to the drug and smoked 14 joints a day.
He had been smoking the drug for five years. He admitted making the cultivation area himself.
Mrs Wilson said: “He hoped to smoke the entire crop himself.
“He expected to grow about a kilo of cannabis which he said would be worth about £7,000.”
Police experts said there was a significant amount of cannabis being grown but the plants were some way off being fully mature.
The court was told Starsinoas had no previous convictions.
Defending, Sonia Bhalla asked the court for a probation report to be prepared for her client before he was sentenced. The magistrates agreed and adjourned the case until February 23.
