Grantham court: Alleged shoplifter absent on medical grounds

The case of a man accused of stealing four scented diffusers from a Grantham store has been adjourned, after he notifed the court that he couldn’t attend because of an ongoing medical condition.

Philip Pledger, 40, of Derwent Road, Grantham is charged with stealing the fragrance products valued at £80 from Laura Ashley on London Road on July 7.

Pledger is yet to enter a plea after missing his hearing on Monday because of ongoing problems with deep vein thrombosis.

He is now due to appear on August 17, when magistrates expect to be provided with medical evidence of why he missed court.He remains on conditional bail.
