Buying cannabis in bulk can be considerably cheaper, Grantham Magistrates’ Court heard.

James Peasgood, formerly of Grantham but now living in St Vincent Avenue, Doncaster, was found to be in possession of 159.72 grammes of cannabis when he was stopped by officers in Belton Lane, Grantham.

Peasgood, 25, told police the relatively large amount of the Class B drug was for his own personal use.

Miss Harte, defending, said: “He accepts that the quantity found in the car was reasonably substantial.

“He had purchased it very recently from a friend, paying £150, I believe, therefore getting it at a bargain rate by buying in bulk.

“It was entirely for his own personal use.”

Miss Harte said Peasgood no longer smokes cannabis and left the area to get away from the temptation to offend again.

Peasgood admitted possession of cannabis and was fined £65. He must also pay £85 costs and a £20 surcharge.

Chairman of magistrates Greg Cejer said: “We are concerned about the quantity but we will take your assertion that it was for personal use.”
