Police searched a driver after stopping him in Grantham and found cannabis in his jacket.

Roland Manning, 35, of Beck Gardens, Grantham, admitted possessing cannabis on February 10.

Prosecutor Tracey Ross told Grantham magistrates that Manning was stopped in his car by police on Dysart Road. They smelled cannabis on him and so searched him, finding the drug in his clothing. He readily admitted it was his drug and he was smoking it for medicinal reasons.

Manning, who was not represented, told the court: “I have worked really hard to get clean and I have not used any other drugs other than cannabis.”

Manning was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

The magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drug.
