A driver was caught just over the alcohol limit while visiting McDonald’s in Grantham.
Mark Andrew Armstrong, 27, of Brittain Drive, Grantham, admitted drink driving on May 1.
Prosecuting, Daniel Pietryka said police were called to the restaurant because there was concern about a customer who appeared to be ‘under the unfluence of alcohol’ while driving.
Police spoke to Armstrong at about 1am and he failed a breath test which measured 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 40 microgrammes of alcohol.
Julian Sheen, defending, said Armstrong had been to a wedding and he had not intended to drive back. He had a few glasses of wine. He said: “He accepts he is entirely to blame. He thought he was fine to drive.”
The court heard that Armstrong worked locally and did some driving on site as part of his employment. But Mr Sheen said this was unlikely to affect his job.
Magistrates disqualified Armstrong from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Armstrong was offered a drink driver’s rehabilitation course, which if successfully completed, will reduce his ban by 13 weeks.
