A 53-year-old who thought he would be sober enough to drive after drinking vodka and beer the night before ended up crashing into parked cars and landing his Land Rover on its roof.

Dezso Kurti, of Avenue Road, Grantham, admitted driving over the alcohol limit at Grantham Magistrates’ Court.

On April 4, Kurti’s Land Rover Freelander collided with two parked vehicles in Harrowby Lane, before landing on its roof.

He had just collected the vehicle from a garage where it had undergone repairs, apparently thinking that he would be sober enough to drive it that afternoon after drinking the previous evening. The police were called and after Kurti was breathalysed and found to be over the drink-drive limit he was arrested and taken to the police station for interview.

Kurti, who is originally from Hungary and has worked at Environcom for the past three years, was disqualified from driving for 16 months with the opportunity to reduce this by 4fourmonths through attendance at a drink awareness course. Magistrates also ordered Kurti to pay a fine of £250, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £25.
