Police found 90 tablets of an illegal drug when they searched the house of a man who suffers from back pain.

Adrian James Lagdon, 29, of Hartington Close, Grantham, told police that he took two of the Subutex tablets every day as pain relief. He admitted possessing the class C controlled drug when he appeared at Grantham Magistrates Court on Monday.

Prosecuting, Daniel Pietryka told the court that Lagdon was stopped by police on June 27 this year and they found a capsule of the drug in his shorts. The later search of his house revealed the 90 tablets of Subutex in a packet. He told police he started taking the drug in prison and had been taking it for six years. He said he did not know at the time that it was illegal.

Rob Arthur, defending, said Lagdon made full and frank admissions to the police about the drugs. Mr Arthur said: “He has had chronic back problems for many years.”

Lagdon was fined £37 with £40 costs and a victim surcharge of £20.
