A man was arrested when he returned to a pub in Grantham town centre an hour after being told to leave the area by police.

Jonathan Loveday, 33, of Beechcroft Road, Grantham, was told by police to leave the area outside the King’s Arms after police intervened in a disturbance and not to return within 10 hours.

Prosecutor Daniel Pietryka told the court that police saw Loveday in Westgate just an hour after giving him the order and then arrested him for breaching it.

Loveday, who was not represented, told the court that he had gone back to look for his girlfriend because he could not get hold of her on the phone.

He said he had left his jacket in the pub and his girlfriend had no money. He said: “I know it was wrong. I had had a drink, but I did not resist arrest.”

Magistrates fined Loveday £220 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £22.
