A Grantham man said he was repairing a knife for someone when he was found with the blade after stealing chocolates from Asda.
George Egen, of William Street, admitted stealing Quality Street chocolates from Asda on November 28, and possessing a lock knife with a three-inch blade. Prosecuting Marie Stace said that the theft was reported by Asda staff at 4.15pm and Egen matched the description given. Police found him close by and found the lock knife on him.
Defending, Rob Arthur said Egen was taking the blade home to repair it.
Egen also admitted assault by beating and criminal damage in Skegness on November 8. Miss Stace said Egen had remonstrated with a man in his accommodation in Skegness and threw a set of keys at him. He then pulled open a door, dislodging its hinges.
Magistrates adjourned the case for reports to January 14.
