A man threw heroin over a wall while he was being chased by police, Grantham magistrates heard.

Kyle Michael O’Connor, 21, of Thames Road, Grantham, admitted possessing 0.29g of heroin on February 6.

Prosecutor Tracey Ross told the court that O’Connor was riding a scooter on Dysart Road when he was followed by police.

They saw him throw something over a wall which they recovered and later found was heroin. O’Connor later told police it could not have been him on the scooter because he had a different coloured helmet.

O’Connor first denied the charge and was due to go to trial on November 13 but he did not appear.

Defending, Rory Macmillan said O’Connor now admitted it was him on the scooter.

He had missed his trial because he was at his grandfather’s funeral and had forgotten about the court appearance.

He said police found him on Sunday and he had spent a night in the cells.

Magistrates fined O’Connor £125 and ordered costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.

They said O’Connor would not be punished further for missing his trial date having spent a night in the cells.
