Grantham court: Over-the-limit driver ignored police attempts to pull him over

Police tried to pull over a driver in Grantham town centre only for him to ignore them and drive onto the A1 at speeds of up to 95mph.

Luke Garner of Tanners Lane, Corby Glen, eventually came to a stop at Colsterworth and was found to be over the drink-drive limit and in possession of cannabis.

He admitted both charges, as well as failing to stop for a police constable.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, told the court police officers tried to get Garner to stop as he was driving past the Angel and Royal hotel but he led them on a pursuit which went through town, up Barrowby Road and onto the A1.

Garner was travelling at 95mph for “a good few minutes” on the A1, Mr Pietryka said.

Garner was found to be over the drink-drive limit, blowing 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath,

The 21-year-old was banned from driving for 40 months and fined £300. He was fined £50 for possession of cannabis, a £30 surcharge and £85 in costs.

There was no separate penalty for failing to stop for the police.
