Police found a man hiding in a cupboard and discovered drugs on a table when they raided an address in Grantham.

Nigel Christopher Batten, 32, was in the downstairs cupboard when police forced their way into the house in Hamilton Road in Grantham.

Batten, of Harrowby Lane, Grantham, admitted possessing 0.68 grams of heroin, 1.83 grams of Mephedrone and 2.82 grams of cannabis.

Prosecuting, Jim Clare told the court that police forced their way into the house with a search warrant and found Batten hiding. They found the drugs on a table with the class A drugs in wraps and bags and the rest in pouches.

Defending, Sonia Bhalla said the drugs were in small amounts for personal use. She said Batten was getting help from Addaction. She added: “At the height of it, he had a £100 a week drug habit.”

District Judge John Stobart fined Batten £100 for possessing the class A drugs and ordered £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. He imposed a conditional discharge for posessing cannabis.
