A teenager tried to throw away a bag of drugs as he was being arrested by police.

Andrew Swinnock, 19, of Sharpe Road, Grantham, admitted possessing a gram of mephedrone on November 3.

The court heard that police were made aware of Swinnock being in the New Beacon Road area. They saw him coming out of a block of flats on Sharpe Road. He ran back in when he saw the officers and tried to get into a ground floor flat. Mrs Wilson said Swinnock became “aggressive and agitated”.

Officers took hold of his arm and he threw a bag of white powder to the floor. The drug was identified as mephedrone. Swinnock said he had paid £30 for it and was going to inject it later that day.

Stuart Wild, defending, said Swinnock was subject to two community orders and was getting support from a mental health team and voluntarily attended Addaction.

Magistrates gave Swinnock a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £40.
