A SUPERMARKET security guard was shot in the leg with a BB gun on Saturday afternoon.

The guard at Morrisons, in the Isaac Newton Centre, Grantham, was walking out of the double doors of the store at around 2.20pm when something hit his ankle.

A police spokesman said: “The bruising is consistent with that of a BB gun pellet. The skin was broken but he has no lasting injury.”

Police believe the shot was fired from inside the store.

Inspector Phil Taylor said: “BB guns can cause nasty injuries and we are warning youngsters and their parents about the issues surrounding carrying them in a public place.

“They also look very similar to real guns and have the potential to spark full-scale firearms responses from the police. This can be a huge waste of tax payers’ money and police resources, which are diverted away from incidents where people’s lives are at risk.

“We take a very dim view of BB and replica guns being carried in public places and we will take robust action against anyone engaging in this kind of activity.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0300 111 0300 quoting incident 269 of July 9.
