A PREGNANT mother-of-two stole three lego sets from WHSmith after her benefits were stopped and she could not afford electricity in her home.

Tracy Finney, of Warmington Avenue, Grantham, admitted concealing the lego, worth £41.97, in a pushchair before leaving the High Street shop without paying on September 1.

She was arrested with the goods still in the pushchair.

Rob Arthur, defending, said she had a history of dishonesty offences which were caused by a previous drug addiction but she had not been in court since 2010.

Mr Arthur said: “Her benefit money had been stopped and she has two young children.”

She attempted to get a loan from social services but failed.

He added: “She couldn’t see them going without electricity over the weekend.”

District Judge John Stobart put Finney on a 12 month conditional discharge.

He said: “This can’t start up again, if it does there’s no question about what will happen to your children. They will go into care while you’re in prison.”
