POLICE are urging motorists to take responsibility for their own property.
The call comes as an increasing number of motorists in the Grantham area are becoming victims of crime after leaving their cars unlocked. To make matters worse, expensive items such as sat navs and laptops are then left in full few of opportunistic thieves.
Insp Nigel Storey of Lincolnshire Police said: “We are pleading with people to remove valuables from their vehicle - not just put them in the glove box, but to take them in doors.
“Otherwise you are making it easy for the opportunist.
“People need to take some responsibility for their property.”
Police say people should even consider leaving an empty glove box open to show would-be thieves that they are wasting their time.
