LINCOLNSHIRE Police has spent £1.3 million on BlackBerry mobile phones for police officers.

The force, which is facing cost cuts of £3.6 million, spent the money on 800 of the top-of-the-range mobiles. A spokesman said as well as the phones the money went on tariff costs, network infrastructure costs and special bespoke software.

The police believe the benefits will include officers spending more time on the beat and a reduction in travel time and mileage.
