Illegal cigarettes and tobacco worth an estimated £35,700 in duty were discovered in a raid on two homes in Grantham.

HM Revenue and Customs seized 75,000 cigarettes and 62 kilos of hand-rolled tobacco, found hidden in cupboards and under beds in the raids last Monday.

HM Revenue and Customs spokesman Maddy Ratnett said: “Tobacco smuggling is organised fraud which encourages and supports criminality within our communities.”

Anyone with information on the sale or storage of illegal cigarettes and tobacco is asked to call HM Revenue and Customs’ helpline on 0800 595000.
