Rumours have been circulating that suspects in the attempted dognappings at Bottesford, reported in last week’s Journal, were arrested in Grantham on Friday.

However, no report of this has been provided by Lincolnshire or Leicester Police. This is backed up by a message sent out through the Lincolnshire Alert channel this afternoon from Grantham PCSO Stuart Bowden, reading: “I have received an e-mail from a Bottesford resident regarding dog thefts and questioning if it is a problem in the areas surrounding Grantham, as they have some concerns in the Bottesford area. To my knowledge it is not an issue at present, based on the lack of reported incidents. I am aware that dog thefts do occur and it was a topic on BBC Radio Lincolnshire this week.

“I would advise that, as with all suspicious circumstances, persons or vehicles the 101 number be used to report the incident/activities. Dogs are far more likely to be lost/run off than be stolen. However, if you require any advice then contact your local neighbourhood policing team or look at for information.”

John Shilton, Bottesford Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, has advised residents in the Bottesford area to “maintain their vigilance and continue to take precautionary measures” to avoid falling victim.
