Bottesford Parish Neighbourhood Watch is warning residents to keep their doors and windows locked following a spate of burglaries in nearby villages.

Burglaries were reported in Sproxton, and also Pickwell, Burrough on the Hill, Gaddesby and Knossington, south of Melton Mowbray.

The home in Sproxton was burgled sometime between Thursday and Saturday, while the other incidents are believed to have taken place on Saturday night, between 3pm and 11.15pm.

Large, detached properties were targeted and items of high value taken. Crooks used a number of methods to gain entry, including climbing in through first floor windows after using the homeowner’s own ladder. In two of the burglaries, ground floor windows were forced open.

In some cases, the homeowners were in their homes but did not see or hear the intruders.

Residents of rural areas are being urged to keep their homes and outbuildings secure, leaving any tools which could be used by criminals stored out of reach.

Suspicious activity should be reported on the non-emergency 101 number, but call 999 if a crime is taking place.
