A FORMER heroin addict stole port and cheese from a supermarket after hearing about the death of her brother.

Amanda Hayward, 47, of William Street, Grantham, was seen by a shopper putting the items into her handbag on February 18. She then left Morrisons in Grantham without paying.

Rob Arthur, defending, said Hayward admitted the offence, which took place a week after her brother’s sudden death from a heroin overdose. She had taken a cocktail of drugs and alcohol.

Mr Arthur said: “Her brother’s death caused her a great deal of upset.”

Magistrates gave her a 12 month conditional discharge and told her to pay £30 towards costs.
