Customers enjoying Sunday lunch at a village pub at the weekend were stunned to see a tank parking up outside.
Diners and regulars at the Tollemache Arms in Buckminster looked on as the driver climbed from the cockpit of his 17-tonne Vickers Abbott tank before making his way to the bar.
No-one was more surprised to see it than new owner Steve Turner, who said: “All the traffic stopped outside the pub when this blooming great tank suddenly arrived - everyone was absolutely gobsmacked.
“With us being a family pub there were lots of children around on Sunday and a lot of them went outside to have a look and have their picture taken next to the tank.”
Mr Turner took over the 19th century coaching inn a fortnight ago - his son Peter is head chef and daughter Sarah is manager. The pub has been refurbished and the restaurant was opened only on Friday.
“It’s been a busy few days for us since we opened and the tank was the icing on the cake,” added Mr Turner.
The owner of the former military vehicle, which was used during the Cold War era, is a collector from Skillington, Lincolnshire, who declined to be named.
