It’s good to read that Chancellor George Osborne is to embark on a real program of growth through the construction industry.
Following the election of the Conservative Government in November 1951, they embarked on a major program of housing construction, lightened the weight of direct taxation on the lower and middle income groups, and enthused a feeling that the harder we worked, the better the rewards.
These measures were required to enable the country to overcome national bankruptcy which was in sight, following the huge financial dept inherited from the previous Labour Government.
These and other measures helped the country to be in balance with the non-sterling world by the second half of the financial year (Oct 1952).
So well done George. Can we have the Grantham by-pass now?
