Platinum Pudding competition launched by Fortnum & Mason to find Jubilee dessert will be judged by Dame Mary Berry

A competition has been launched to find a dessert dish that will take centre stage on tables across the land - and be served to Her Majesty - during this year's celebrations for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Professional cooks, budding chefs and home bakers are among all those being encouraged to enter a recipe for the Platinum Pudding competition to find a sweet treat befitting of this year's celebrations.
Launched by upmarket London store Fortnum & Mason, and to be judged by an expert panel led by Dame Mary Berry, the competition is specifically looking for a pudding that can be served this summer.
This could include a boiled or steamed pudding, a bread pudding or something baked with pastry like a pie or a tart, a dessert made in the style of a milk pudding such as a custard or cream, a pudding using batter like a fritter or pancake or a more traditional jelly-style dish.
Not only will the winning pudding become an important part of any food served during events marking the historic 70th anniversary of The Queen's reign, the creator of the winning pudding will also be invited to be at the centre of party preparations and celebrations.
All dishes entered must be genuine, accurate and most-importantly original, should be handmade and be able to be submitted online using just the recipe, a short description and a photograph.
It also needs to be a dessert all households could recreate at home and that would be suitable for community celebrations and street parties across the Commonwealth and therefore needs to use ingredients and kitchen equipment readily available to people all over the world.
Competition organisers - which say all good puddings are made with 'passion and pride' - are also particularly keen to hear about any puddings that come with their own story - such as one inspired by The Queen's life, a recipe handed down through generations of a family or one which brings back someone's own special memories.
The first round of the competition is open until February 4, after which all entries sumbitted online will be whittled down to between 30 and 50 before each judge on the panel is asked to nominate their top three. After further discussion and deliberation the panel will then select a final group of five to attend a live final in March.
Working alongside former Great British Bake Off judge Dame Mary Berry will be former contestant Liam Charles, chef and Masterchef judge Monica Galetti, Buckingham Palace head chef Mark Flanagan, food writer Jane Dunn, pastry chef Matt Adlard, culinary historian Regula Ysewun and Roger Pizey who is Executive Pastry Chef for Fortnum & Mason.
Dame Mary Berry said: "I'm so thrilled to be panel chair for this exciting competition to make the perfect pudding fit for the Queen, and to work alongside such a wonderful team of judges.
