The acting principal at Charles Read Academy in Corby Glen has been given the job on a permancent basis.

Robert Sloan was appointed principal after a ‘rigorous’ national recruitment campaign, which the school says attracted a high number of top quality applicants.

Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust which sponsors the academy, praised the impact that Mr Sloan has had on the school over recent months.

She said: “Mr Sloan has been at the forefront of all the very positive improvements that have been seen at Charles Read Academy. I am confident that under Mr Sloan’s leadership Charles Read Academy will continue to grow and improve. His ability to motivate the staff and students and his commitment to the academy clearly show that he is the right leader for the school. I am delighted that he has been appointed Principal.”

The Trust says the academy has recently seen a sharp increase in achievement at GCSE and that the infrastructure at the school has improved with new music facilities, refurbished science labs and building work underway on the new astro-turf sports picthes. There has also been a huge expansion in the number of extra-curricular activities and sporting events.

Mr Sloan, who was appointed acting head in April, said: “It is an exciting time to be part of Charles Read and we have achieved a huge amount in a very short time. I am delighted that I can continue to lead the academy and help deliver an outstanding education for our students. “
