FLYING cadets with Grantham’s 47F Squadron Air Training Corps have been honoured at a graduation ceremony after completing their 18-week basic training.

Every cadet who signed up for the course stuck with it to the end, resulting in a 15-strong graduation class.

Graduates were congratulated by Group Captain Frank Doran, 47F Squadron Chairman. The recruits were then formally enrolled into the squadron.

The Officer Commanding 47F Grantham Squadron Flt Lt Gary Allen said: “They worked hard together and formed as a team very early on.

“We recognise that this is not for everyone and we always expect to lose a few cadets early into their training. They are all without exception more confident individuals, and they should also be very proud of what they have achieved.”

During their 18-week course the cadets were taught a variety of new skills including drill, uniform care, public speaking, initiative exercises, RAF and ATC history, first aid, map reading, principles of flight, and airmanship. To mark the end of the course, the recruits went on parade in front of their families and friends

The next intake of recruits will be on March 15 for anyone who is between 13 and 17 years of age. Anyone is welcome to call in to the squadron in Trigg’s Yard on a Tuesday or Thursday evening to find our more.
