NEW environmental technologies feature in a renewable energy centre which has been officially opened at Grantham College.

The centre, which was formerly student accommodation, is installed with under-floor heating, airsource and groundsource heating, photovoltaic solar heating, heat recovery and rainwater harvesting systems.

So not only will the centre be used as classrooms for short courses and training, it is also an opportunity for students and employers to get hands-on experience of such new eco-friendly technologies.

More than 40 people attended the official opening of the centre on Friday.

Head of construction Steve Shepherd said: “It was a very successful launch which was well attended by a good range of different organisations. Everyone gave positive feedback about the centre and I am very pleased with what we have achieved with the opening of the centre.

“We now have a valuable asset to deliver environmental technologies training to the people of Grantham and the surrounding area.”

Work began on transforming the renewable energy centre in 2009, after funding of £40,000 was granted.
