A MOSAIC sundial made by pupils from two schools will take pride of place at Woolsthorpe Manor.

Twelve Year 7 pupils of Charles Read Academy (CRA), together with youngsters from Colsterworth Primary School, were involved in the art project.

They were asked to design and create a mosaic sundial themed around Lincolnshire’s wildlife to be installed in the manor’s grounds.

Ann Butler, from CRA in Corby Glen, said: “They donned safety glasses and used hammers to smash the tiles to use in their mosaics. Each student made one mosaic each.

“The pieces of tile had to be put together very carefully to show the pictures they were making and then the tiles had to be grouted into place.”

The whole project took four days to complete and the students had to work in partnership with each other to produce the finished sundial design.

CRA student Abbigayle Ravenscroft said: “Going to Woolsthorpe Manor was a pleasure. We all had a great time and can’t wait to return and see the finished sundial in place.”
